Tokyo Seimitsu, in partnership with NTT Advanced Technology Corporation, Launches the CEI-1000A, an Optical Fiber Connector End Face Inspection Machine.

Tokyo Seimitsu Co., Ltd. (Chairman & CEO: Hideo Ohtsubo) and NTT Advanced Technology Corporation (NTT-AT, President, CEO: Kimio Tazaki) has jointly developed an optical fiber connector end face inspection machine, the CEI-1000A. Both companies will begin sales of this new equipment in September. The CEI-1000A will be exhibited at NTT-AT's exhibition booth in "Tsukuba Forum", which will be held from November 1 to 2 in Tsukuba, Ibaraki prefecture.

Background The CEI-1000A takes shots of optical fiber connector end faces with a CCD camera and then automatically inspects scratches, recesses and contamination of the end faces. This machine is also able to display inspection results and defects on a connected PC.

Scratches, recesses and contamination on the end face of optical fiber connectors cause difficulties in optical data transmission. Up until now, to avoid this, inspection has been executed manually using an optical microscope. The CEI-1000A is fully automated and produces quantitative analysis to meet the needs of mass production of optical fiber connectors.

Major features

  1. Auto focus, auto defect recognition, auto defect display, and auto sorting of defected products (pass or fail sorting).
  2. The CEI-1000A realizes super high speed processing, producing results within 3 seconds from the start of measuring including auto-focusing time.
  3. As images of defects are enlarged to approximately 800 times with the optical zoom unit, the CEI-1000A assures 0.1 micron meter resolution. With the digital zooming unit, defects can be enlarged to over 2000 times on the display.
  4. Standards for pass or failure can be customized by users such as by specifying measuring areas and the number of defects to be picked up. Thus, the CEI1000A can be applied to various inspection standards and users' unique standards.
  5. The main body of the measuring equipment and PC with a high performance image processing circuit board is in a single unit.

The optical fiber related market is expected to grow significantly to meet the demand for bulk data transmission and high-speed data transmission. NTT-AT and Tokyo Seimitsu considers optical fiber inspection as a strategic market and the companies will aggressively market the CEI-1000A.
